Discrimination on Craigslist

Travis brought this to my attention.

An Apt for Rent in Washington, D.C. They appear to be a little picky about their target audience. Check it out here.

Pay special attention to the section that reads:

I'd like to rent the lower level suite to a mellow, clean, mature, relatively quiet, liberal, reasonable and kind person, male or female.

As Travis pointed out to me, he thought they had a non-discrimination policy.

I guess some discrimination is allowed, or rather some types of discrimination are more 'discriminatory' than others.

Check out Craigslist's info on the Fair Housing Act.

Comments:
It looks like the inconsistancy derives from the FHA, since "political affiliation" isn't a protected category.

It is the same with workplace harassment. There are protected classes making some types of harassment lawful and unlawful. It is a nice perversion.

I'm sure that the poster could not imagine someone who is "mellow, clean, mature, relatively quiet, reasonable and kind" but NOT a liberal.

Case in point: A friend of mine brought her date to my house last weekend. Very nice (but liberal) guy. After seeing our signed picture of Jesse Helms (that we keep in the study mostly as a joke) he exclaimed: I never would have guessed that you're conservative! Apparently it was difficult to conceive of nice, hospitable, cool, young people who are also conservative.

I didn't want it to come to this, but I have no choice.

Travis is a loser. Pass it on.
