Art

In a recent CSI episode, one of the main characters (Grisham for those that know) said that life imitates art. Do you think that is true? Why wouldn't is be the other way around? Why wouldn't art imitate life?

I know it is a bit of a 'chicken or the egg' question, but I think it is worth a thought or two. Any takers?

Comments:
Imitation is the core of virtue which is the source of ethics.
We imitate our ideals in an effort to achieve them. But we never do. I believe the practice of imitation is to be morally good.
We try to describe our ideals in our art. They are mere shadows, but because they are not prosaic they hint at something transcending what our senses can inform us about.
Thus we try to live our lives in imitation of our art. Life imitates art.
